How I got job soon after 3 months of my arrival to USA from Pakistan

by Ali Khan
(Manhattan)

Hello dear friends,

Normally, those who travel from Pakistan have this image that whether they are an MBA or they have very good job experience back home, they just never hope good to get good job.

That happened to me, when I arrived here in New York. First of all I was scared because of rumors and movies scenes that always demotivated me regarding odd jobs we do here and kill ourselves and our dreams of getting good jobs.

Secondly, we have such a turmoil situation that turned recession into depression.

I thought that I am going to work menial jobs on minimum wage and I never wanted to do such jobs in my life.

I got banking experience from Pakistan and have a bachelors degree in Accounting, and I was sure that no one is going to give a single glance at my resume and they will throw it away.

I love my dad and he is always positive about achieving goals in life. He said, "Son go ahead and don't look at the huge buildings in Manhattan like Goldman Sachs, Citigroup and all, just go ahead and see where your fate takes you." I did that and thank God, I got an education in English medium schools and colleges. But I still had listening problem that I improved a lot now.

I started sending resume and then one day I received a call from Goldman Sachs for a temp position, I jumped up and got ready with beautiful blue suit with light blue shirt and silk blue tie on it, having my documents in hand I left for an interview very nicely like a handsome boy :) but what happened? I was rejected, that was the saddest moment I went through but trust me folks I didn't stop myself from sending resumes.

One day I got call from Wall Street's very huge investment bank for the position of business analyst. I laughed at me at home and thought, "ooh come on Ali no way, it's again a mess and you will be rejected." My dad said, "Get the hell out of here and go as you will never know."

I did what he said and in the interview I was selected as a temp. Now once you are in now you can bow millions of heads in front of you by having best attitude with smiling face and by showing yourself as someone who loves challenges.
I started with 13 dollars and hour on Wall Street that I never dreamt of it in my life, and I was so happy. I showed my best by taking interest in work, wearing good clothes with always fresh fragrance and polished shoes.

After 6 months folks I got offer for a permanent position as an AVP! Isn't it interesting, yes it is my friends and I got ready by saying that yes sure why not. I took that offer so normally to show that helloooo I deserve it so I am not emotional :) and now my friends I have been working on wall street for 1.5 years and earning 80,000 dollars a year and I am only 26. Well that's all I wanted to discuss and share to tell you all that never lose hope friends and do your best to get what you want. Now I am the pride of my family and my relatives back home as well as here too who spent half of their lives in US but never got good jobs and you know why? It is because they had same negative thinking of who will give them jobs and always thinking "ooo forget it we are less fortunate."

Now when I see the same negative thinkers who lack confidence are the ones now teaching their kids to learn from me and follow me, I would say just be confident and never lose hope, and being a Muslim I always say thanks to Allah for his blessings upon me.

Good luck to all of you and pray that I grow more and more and can help my friends around the world by saying only one thing that there is only one race in this world and that's the human race.

Take care,
Ali
