Being a solid individual.

by Ruben Casillas

I truly believe that in order to be successful and consistent in anything in life, whether it be a career or parent you first, have to get a hold of your time.

When I was in Afghanistan for instance. I was more than ready, I was prepared. We had 9 weeks to learn how to be a soldier. From the very first day my time management was already laid out for me, and the rest of us new recruits. But the catch was what we as individuals put into this time.

I was the Distinguished Honor Graduate #1 in my basic training as well as AIT. I then went to Airborne School then got to Ft. Bragg N.C. I was there maybe a month before I was picked out and asked if I would like to go to combat. I said yes prepared.

But when I arrived in Afghanistan I was so surprised on how many soldiers there had weapons and artillery with literally no knowledge on how to perform them. They relied on someone else through training to do the thinking for them because their time was obviously spent. I then felt uncomfortable to be by these "slackers". Needless to say while you have the chance ask questions and interact with others. Learn all you can and spend your time wisely.

This is just my story as to why time management is so important because if they would have learned the first time they would not have had to put themselves as well as others in danger.

I do this unwittingly. A lot people question my curiosity however what I think/wonder about is critical information to me, if not, I don't believe I would have been In that moment. I am a part of each moment to learn something new then share my personal experience and knowledge (if possible).
