Why you should NEVER... EVER.... EVER TRUST YOUR BOSS!

I am female. I will not tell my name, for fear of more retaliation than I am already facing!

I have worked at my job, as a director for a PBS Television Station, for the past twenty-four (24) years. My boss worked in the section next to mine, before becoming my supervisor. He and I became friends, or so I thought so!

When this man became my boss, though he had never directed a television show, I immediately took him into my confidence, telling him about all of the problems I had encountered with others...some of whom were his co-workers, before he became my boss. WRONG MOVE!

Little did I know that this guy really had it in for me...at the behest of his co-workers...all female...all disliking me for not settling for office work. Instead, I worked to become a "director", and had made it. In the meantime, all of these "female" office workers, were watching me.

At the first opportunity, upon becoming my supervisor, this guy took everything I said, and did and exaggerated it. He then started giving my directing assignments to his "favorites". He documented all conversations I had with him, and used those conversations as fodder to demote me, isolate me, humiliate me, and embarass me. He even slammed the door in my face, a couple of weeks ago.

He had since "earned stripes" for humiliating me, and "putting me in my place" for his female "friends".

My advice to young professionals is this:

1) Never, ever, ever, trust your boss!
2) Never, ever, ever, trust your co-workers!
3) Always be professional in your dress.
4) Always be professional when working with anybody!
5) Remember..."office snakes" are watching you.
6) They watch when you come in....when you leave.
7) They "monitor" what you are doing.
8) Try to be "responsible" for your own career"
9) Stay out of "office politics". In the end, you will find yourself "alone", while everybody
"went to bat" for...is "buddy-buddy".
10) Go to work...do your job...go home. Don't trust anybody at work! They are waiting to "tell on you" hoping to get a feather in their cap, or a leg-up with the boss.

Again...Never...ever...trust your Boss!

Thank you, I really needed this. NEW
by: ๐Ÿ˜”

I am fairly young and still in college. So to get by I have been working at this job for 2.5 years and really put my best effort into it as it was my first real job. I have never called in on short notice and cover for everyone else. At one point I was getting a lot of hours and felt needed but now he hires more people and continues to decrease my days when I really need the money. I used to really enjoy the job and look forward to going to work. But now so much has changed within the environment and it just breaks my heart at what's been going on. I guess I got to attached to my first job. Now I will act way more professional and just go in and do the job. Getting stuck in the politics of work is my downfall. I guess I cared to much. Sorry to hear what your going through. Hopefully it has gotten better for you. :(

I hear that NEW
by: Anonymous

Oh goodness this is the best advice. Come to work, do just that, be friendly, and go home. Have friends outside of your workplace that you hang out with. Work is work and your life away from there is your life to enjoy. Not saying you can't enjoy your work but if you feel in your gut something is sneaky, it is.
Can not say anything where I work it gets twisted. Coworkers run to tell/text the boss or asst. boss. Texting is horrible as it is instant snitching.
Everyone stay on their toes and have a great day.

Day 3 On the Job and Already Learned This Lesson NEW
by: Anonymous

I was offered a position, the hours of work were stated 4 times in writing and once verbally--at application, interview, acceptance, orientation and the "Welcome" letter. On Day 2 my schedule changed. I went to see the supervisor to tell her that I had a standing commitment on Friday's (a day I wasn't supposed to work) and that I had made plans to have my car repaired that Friday. She said "are you requesting time off already"? I was like no, how could it be time off when I wasn't supposed to work and had the hours switched on me? I told her I would problem solve it. The next day the Director came to my desk and said "did you get your work schedule figured out?" The Director was told (and God knows who else) by a supervisor when it was just a discussion and a reasonable one at that. Already trying to get me in trouble or labeling me a troublemaker. DO NOT TRUST ANYONE AT WORK. DO NOT TRUST YOUR SUPERVISOR. This woman used my perfectly reasonable discussion to draw attention to me on Day 2 and perhaps to feather her cap with oh look I ferretted out problem employee already! And now I am being punished by not being but in the training class that started and instead am shadowing someone and we all know how awful that it. Side eyes from management already and all because of this sneaky supervisor.

Never...Ever..Ever Trust Your Boss or Others Boss!!! NEW
by: Anonymous

I 100% agree with you that we should not trust our boss...Whatever boss said we must at least filter out 90%...another 10% we need to make our judgement. May be only 1% we can hear and the most importance is our boss can force us to throw letter. Not only our boss we can't trust, others boss also can't trust. I have experience that other boss told me every ok, u can come to my function. But when really request want to transfer he will change the word.

Co-workers NEW
by: Anonymous

I definitely know better than to take a co-worker in my confidence and tattle on the other co-workers. I'm pleasant and remain neutral and talk only when need to. I avoid office politics and holiday parties. There's too much nonsense going on and hearing the gossip afterwards. I don't trust my co-worker and boss(es). I only speak to them when spoken to or have the need concerning business work. I keep my distance.

First hand experiences with nastiness NEW
by: Anonymous

I agree you should not trust your co workers. I've experienced a lot of unnecessary nastiness and gossiping. People can be downright mean especially when you did NOTHING to provoke a situation. The work world I have learned you better watch what you say in general conversations as well as what you think you are confiding to someone. Once someone learns how to "push your buttons" they will keep doing it because they can get away with it. They won't suffer any consequences for it either. I have also learned that there are co workers that text amongst each other about things that happen at work and about other co workers that they don't like.

Co workers are never to be trusted. You don't know what king of thoughts are really going through their heads. I've also learned that if you use your companies text messaging system, you better be damn careful of what you are saying because your supervisor can pull up any email and any text message sent from your computer. Just a lesson I learned a long time ago.

It's also advisable not to be connected to any co workers on facebook either. Not unless you know you can 100% trust them. Even then I am not so sure.

True statement NEW
by: Alwin

I do agree to the statement that we should never trust our boss. Or in other words we can say that we should love our job but not our company. Its because we can never knew when the company stops loving us. It all depends on our performance during work.

Unquestionably believe that which you said. Your favorite reason appeared to be on the web the easiest thing to be aware of. I say to you, I definitely get irked while people consider worries that they plainly do not know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and defined out the whole thing without having side-effects , people can take a signal. Will probably be back to get more. Thanks

do not trust your boss
by: john

You make a good point, one must keep one's colleagues at a distance i agree. Do not be nasty but do not trust them entirely. It looks to me as if you are a victim of workplace bullying and I would suggest you too keep a secret diary of relevant events. That way you have got something to hit back with should the need arise.
I too have had a similar experience in the past and i understand how you feel.
I wish such measures were not needed but it is a sign of the times we live in I am afraid.
