How To Build Self-Esteem – A Quick Guide to Self Improvement

How to build self-esteem at work? Perhaps what affects you most is the fact that you are new at work and lack confidence. This in turns affects your self-esteem even more.

These are some quick guide that can help build your self-esteem and confidence. It may not work overnight but constant trying and believing in yourself can and will give you more confidence and build your self-esteem.

1. Know There Is Only One YOU
There is only one YOU in this world. You are special. This sounds cliché. But spend time thinking about all the things you can do and do well. Do not compare this with others. Others maybe able to the things you do well too. But you do it differently and you have your own style.

The Chinese have a saying, “Tian Sheng Wo Cai Bi You Yong” translated to mean heaven has a role for all of us.

2. Act It
Act confidently. When you start to act confidently you start to believe in yourself. How do you act confidently? Speak louder and with confidence. Practice in front of the mirror if you have to. As you practice, you will also start to believe in yourself. Dress neatly. Do not slouch when you sit and walk. When you start to do all these people will treat you differently and speak to you with respect.

3. Surround Yourself With Positive Minded People
If you want to build self-esteem stick around people who are positive and have good self-confidence. But remember not be negative around them. While positive people will encourage and help you grow and build a better self-image for yourself, they dislike people who drain them off their positive energy.

When you act like them and surround yourself with like-minded positive people, you will begin to be like them.

4. Encourage Others
It sounds funny that someone who lacks confidence and self-esteem needs to encourage others to gain self-esteem. But it works. Try encouraging others in their work. As you help someone, you are also reminding yourself of what you can and should do. You can build your own self-esteem when you help someone else build his or her self-esteem.

5. Read Success Stories
The bookstores are filled with books on success stories of people who have little or nothing to work with to be successful. Yet they became great success. These are some books I would recommend you to read on how to build self-esteem and confidence.

One step in building self-esteem is to read about the success of others. Believe that you can do it as others have shown you.

6. Set Small Achievable Goals
How to build self-esteem? Set small achievable goals. As you achieve those goals it builds new confidence. It also builds your worthiness as people praise you for your achievements and compliment you for a job well done.

Besides that, write down all the things you have done well before. It doesn’t matter how small they are. Put them down on paper and read them to yourself once you complete them. Add to this list as you go along.
