The Seven Habits Highly Successful People Practice

Ever wondered what seven habits highly successful people practice?

One day on a trip home, I was boasting to my wife how my hometown probably has more public listed firms than any towns. The chat went on to a discussion about what were some of the habits and success factors these successful people practiced and implemented. She asked if there were seven habits highly successful people practiced. Some of these founders are personal friends of my family, so based on what I know, I detailed each of these as soon as we reached home.

The Seven Habits Highly Successful People Practice:

1. Capacity
Many people overlook this particular 'seven habits highly successful people practice' - the capacity to take hard work and working hard. The problem could be because there is so much hype about working smart; a lot of people actually think they can be successful without working hard. Highly successful people are never lazy. They have a huge capacity for working hard.

2. Clear
Highly successful people have a clear vision and mission of what they want to do. A clear vision of their definition of success they work towards. What is your clear definition of success? Is it a certain position? Is it a certain amount of monetary rewards? Or is it something else? How would you measure your success?

3. Competent
One of the seven habits highly successful people practice is being good at what they do. Even if they do not have the skills and expertise initially, you can almost be certain they would learn it in due course. They would never let the lack of competency deter them from achieving their dreams.

4. Confident
Life is not without pitfalls and setbacks. It is the same for highly successful people. One thing that makes them successful is the confidence to pick themselves up again. They do not let setbacks and failures dent their confidence.

5. Consistent
This is one of my favourite 'seven habits highly successful people practice' because I personally heard it from Uncle T – one of my Dad’s friends I am fond of. To put it in his words, “doing well is not enough. Giving your best in EACH of your undertaking is more important.” Consistently giving your best shot in each of your assignment will in the long run bear fruits of your labor.

6. Conviction
You can almost be certain that each of these successful people have a deep conviction of what they want to achieve. A deep belief of what they want to do and how they will achieve it. No matter what is thrown their way, they press on. They believe they are their own success maker. Ask yourself, as a career builder, what is your conviction?

7. Courage
Quite a few of these successful people are self-made millionaires. Some of them have no tertiary education but that did not stop them from charging forward against all odds. The courage to take calculated risks is a big factor in their success.

As a career builder, I encourage you to pick one or two of these 7 habits highly successful people practice. Implement them for yourself and see the results over time.
